Bob Swinney, Partner
Hello. I’m a partner at Kline Swinney Associates with over 40 years of experience in the field of architecture. I’m a graduate of David Lipscomb High School, and graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a Bachelor of Architecture degree.
My interest in architecture was greatly influenced by my family-owned business which designed and built religious facilities all over the Southeast and Midwest. As a teenager, I spent afternoons running blue-line prints on an old ammonia-based machine and learning to draw buildings by hand.
After graduating I looked to enter the workforce during a recession. Unfortunately, my services were less in demand than I had hoped, so I hit the trail for California. There I managed to design custom homes for two years.
After returning to the Nashville area in 1976, I worked for several architectural firms for a few years before venturing out on my own in 1981. Based on my early experience in the family business, I developed a niche architectural practice working closely with church building committees and bank boards of directors to make their building ideas become a reality.
In 1986 I met and joined forces with David Kline to form Kline Swinney Associates. This association has allowed me to expand my portfolio of expertise to include government, industrial, educational, retail and multi-family housing projects.
People say I have an easy going style and ability as a problem solver (and humility). That said, I believe my skills include the ability to manage projects large and small in a calm manner that encourages all involved parties, from Owners to Contractors, to work as a team to achieve the best possible project outcome.
My favorite pastimes include shoving rocks around with a Bobcat, landscaping, living and dying with Big Orange sports, getting away to St. George Island, Florida, attending concerts, and summer evenings in the Mt. Juliet countryside.
I am a certified LEED AP and the official spelling and grammar editor for the office.
